The reason for existence
My hope is that this is a place to find resources, reviews and (hopefully) guidance to help you on your marathon journey, wherever it may take you! I started my marathon journey in January 2020 and personally had a lot of questions about practically everything. As I complete races and training plans, I will share lessons that I have learned and give my feedback on the process. As a married father of two with a full-time job, I hope I can relate to a lot of people looking to figure this all out. Enjoy!
Why “Recovering Decathlete”?
The “easy” answer is that I competed as a decathlete in college for 4 years in both indoor and outdoor track. Outside of the sport, it has became a bit of a theme for my life, where personally and professionally I have not focused in on one specific area, but instead have been involved in many different areas. Even when I was actually competing as a decathlete, I was a full-time student, ran my own campus barbershop and worked as a Resident Assistant. I tend to thrive when I’m able to stay stimulated with multiple plates in the air but am also envious of others who focus on one or two things and go after them with an impassioned effort.
During my athletic reinvention as a distance runner, I referred to myself as a recovering decathlete after one particularly long and hard run and it just felt appropriate. Here’s to hoping I don’t think this name is awful and try to change everything in a few years…
